Many people
have written and published different kinds of collections of homilies on the
Sunday readings. One may wonder whether there is need for yet another. Fr.
Okami has proved with this new book, He Sent Forth His Word, that there
is always room for more reflections on the Word of God. After all, it has been
said, and for very good reasons, that “the Word of the Lord lasts for ever”.
What we have before us is clearly the fruits of many hours of deep reflection
and fervent prayer on the Three Readings of each Sunday of the Lectionary. We
thank Fr. Okami for sharing his thoughts with us, for our edification and
inspiration.

Every
Sunday, the Church offers us an abundant nourishment of three readings. While
the first and the third are often somehow connected in theme, the second is
generally out on its own. Therefore, preachers generally have a tough time
working out a coherent message from the three readings. But that should not
worry us too much, since every reading gives us enough food for thought for the
day.

Fr. Okami
has managed to serve us a good spiritual meal from each reading, in a congenial
style that is simple and straightforward, practical and down to earth. We will
do well to take the reflections one after the other, applying them to our lives
at different stages and circumstances.
